About Us: Muslim Association of Britain

The Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) was founded in November 1997 and is a mainstream grass roots organisation dedicated to serving society. MAB works hand in hand with organisations, civic institutions, and political bodies to achieve the positive integration of Muslims in the wider British society.

Our aim is to promote the principles of positive Muslim interaction with all elements of society to reflect, project and to convey the message of Islam in its pure and unblemished form. We work to broaden the scope of dialogue between the different cultural, faith and non faith organisations and bodies in order to serve society and humanity.

MAB is a founding member of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe (FIOE) and the Mosques and Imams National Advisory Body (MINAB).

MCB is a national representative Muslim umbrella body with over 500 affiliated national, regional and local organisations, mosques, charities and schools. The MCB is pledged to work for the common good of society as a whole; encouraging individual Muslims and Muslim organisations to play a full and participatory role in public life.

FIOE is a European representative Muslim umbrella body which is pledged to work for the common good of society across Europe.

MINAB is an independent body recently established as an initiative by different Muslim organisations. MINAB seeks to develop and improve working standards in mosques and Islamic centres, as well as training Imams and developing their skills.

MAB actively seeks to dispel the misconceptions about Muslims and helps to act as a bridge to promote better understanding between the UK and the Muslim World. Examples of this are the historic anti-war movement, which we led with our partners the Stop the War Coalition and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) and helping the local Muslim community root out unwanted elements from, and reclaim, the Finsbury Park Mosque – now called the North London Mosque. MAB has actively worked to encourage Muslims to take part in mainstream political and media work which led to the Guardian Newspaper referring to MAB as – ‘the organisation that changed the way the Iraq war was reported’.

MAB Branches include: London, Birmingham, Cardiff, West Midlands, Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle & Scotland.
