The Muslim Association of Britain condemns in no uncertain terms the mass executions carried out in Egypt today, Wednesday the 20th February.
Nine young men, all tried in farcical court hearings for trumped up charges, were executed in one of the most obscene acts of the regime’s campaign to wipe out all forms of dissent. This comes hot on the heels of the extra-judicial execution of 6 young men in a staged attack on a terrorist cell earlier this month.
Despite major human rights organisations including Amnesty International calling for these executions to be halted, the Egyptian authorities proceeded in killing these 9 men regardless.
MAB calls upon the UK government to send a clear message of condemnation of these executions to its Egyptian counterpart, particularly in light of the political nature of judicial proceedings and the gross injustices being perpetrated at the behest of a military regime determined to eradicate any and all forms of opposition.
