The Muslim Association of Britain extends its warmest congratulations to our Paralympics team which came second in the final medals table in the #Rio2016 games which concluded last night.

The last ten days have provided an exemplary lesson that nothing is beyond the capacity and aptitude of the human being whatever the impediments, challenges and hurdles. The Paralympics have also provided a live illustration of what can be achieved when everyone is seen as equal and treated with parity, respect and dignity.

With 147 medals overall, our Paralympians have followed on from the recent successes of their Olympian peers in showing that the country has taken great strides reflecting a healthy attitude across British society towards athleticism and sport. Should this attitude be replicated across all strands of life, society as a whole would thrive and succeed in a similar fashion.

Omer El-Hamdoon, President of MAB stated: “Our Paralympians have made us all proud and have demonstrated that there is no limit to what one can do with effort, endeavour and a fair opportunity. Many a lesson has been learnt over the course of the Paralympic games, not least lessons to do with humanity, dignity and equality.”
