MAB Condemns the killing of an Imam and his assistant in New York
The Muslim Association of Britain is outraged and appalled at the killing of Imam Maulana Akonjee and his assistant Thara Uddin who were shot in Queens, New York, as they walked from the Mosque.
MAB condemns this violent attack, and joins others in expressing its sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
Whilst the motive for such a crime is yet to be determined, MAB reiterates the importance of combating anti Muslim hatred which has tripled in the previous year; and may have been the cause of such an abhorrent criminal act.
Dr Omer El-Hamdoon, President of MAB said “Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the two men killed. We are saddened and sickened by what has happened. Our prayers with the two victims that God have mercy on their souls.”
